Raw Protein Blends for Ferrets
A Species-Appropriate Diet
Ferrets are strict carnivores, and their diet is crucial for their health. Our raw protein blends are specifically formulated to meet their unique nutritional needs, offering a biologically appropriate and highly digestible food source.
What Do Ferrets Eat?
(The Ancestral Diet)
Ferrets are obligate carnivores, meaning their bodies are designed to thrive exclusively on animal protein and fat. Their digestive system, almost identical to that of their wild ancestors, the European Polecat, is built for processing whole prey. This ancestral diet, rich in muscle meat, organs, and bone, provides the exact balance of nutrients ferrets need.
Our raw protein blends aim to replicate the natural, species-appropriate diet that ferrets have evolved to consume. This approach provides optimal nutrition, supporting their overall vitality and well-being. Unlike an unbalanced whole meat diet, our blends are carefully formulated to ensure all essential nutrients are present.
Feeding Frequency and Weight Management
Ferrets have a rapid digestive transit time, meaning they eat and defecate frequently. To prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially in aging ferrets prone to pancreatic issues, it's best to feed them several small meals throughout the day. Our raw protein blends can be portioned out for convenience!
Supplements and Treats
If your ferret is on a high-quality, premium diet like our raw protein blends, extra vitamins are unnecessary.
While ferrets may enjoy sweet or dairy treats, these should be avoided as they can cause diarrhea and blood sugar imbalances.Instead, offer species-appropriate, meat-based treats like the ones you'll find here at BJ's Raw Pet Food!
Remember, chocolate is fatal to ferrets!
Ferrets can become overweight if given too many calorie-dense treats.
Hydration
Always provide your ferret with fresh water. A sipper bottle or a heavy crockery bowl that won't easily tip over are both good options, as ferrets love to play with their water dishes.
Please note that ferrets typically cannot tolerate raw goat milk, even products like those sold by BJ's, as dairy can cause digestive upset and diarrhea.
